The district is committed to giving the people of Cumbria opportunities to hear and respond to the good news of Jesus Christ presented in understandable, inspiring and challenging ways, and to inviting them to become his lifelong followers.

There are many ways to do this – too many to list! One is by helping followers of Jesus to talk about their faith naturally and effectively. This is done primarily through a course called “Lost For Words”. To find out when and where this course will be running, contact our district evangelism enabler.

Walk Cumbria (28 April – 20 May 2007) will give us many chances to pass on the good news. Churches Together in Cumbria has set this up, and the district is part of it. It will involve several hundred trained mission team members actively engaged in a variety of mission projects, overseen by a local task force drawn from many denominations. Local churches, however, will shape the mission in their area.

The Christian Church has meaningful contact with less than 20% of the UK population. So, without neglecting existing churches, we support Fresh Expressions of Church – churches that prioritise reaching those who are beyond the reach of “traditional” Church life. Take a look to find out more. You’ll find lots of interesting stuff there, including a directory of Fresh Expressions of Church.

We want to help churches and circuits develop and work to realistic strategies for evangelism. (This includes enabling Christians and churches to see the value of existing work and, where necessary, how that work can be adapted to be more effective as a tool for evangelism. It also includes exploring understandings and models of evangelism to (re)discover forms of evangelism which will be effective in our 21st century context.)

Our district evangelism enabler, Revd Paul Dunstan, is available to help with any of these projects.
