We have found that a lot of people are unsure where Cumbria actually is.
Here’s a map of Great Britain (not including Ireland although, as far as we know, it’s still in its usual place!). Cumbria is the bit that sticks out into the Irish Sea just north of Morecambe Bay – about as far north as you can go up the west coast without crossing the Scottish border. Up here we think “Coronation Street” is about a bunch of southerners! Cumbria contains the Lake District and lots of tourists. Wordsworth was born here. So was Stan Laurel. We have the highest mountain in England and the deepest lake. We are famous for Herdwick sheep, Cumberland Sausage and Kendal mint cake. And we have 144 Methodist churches.
